It all started during lockdown.

We were all made to stay in our homes during 2020 due to the pandemic. My creative journey started with joining groups on Instagram. Dressing up for virtual get-togethers. That was a new avenue for my artistic thinking. Coming up with different ways to call it dress up, off, down, whatever. Just using my cell phone and materials I have on hand is what really gets the grey matter churning! These are very much influenced by pop culture.

One With Frida

It all began here. Dressing up as Frida Kahlo. I painted the background of her self-portrait she had done, on a canvas tarp I had lying around. I put on a little make-up and posed just so in front of the painted background.

Opera Glasses

We all know plastic straws aren’t recyclable. I can’t in good faith throw them in the landfill. I have made several projects with these easily massed items. This one was with some wire, glue and my imagination. The scene? Going to the opera. Again, dressing up with all the things I already have.

Not Naomi

This piece is an example of pop culture, for sure. Supermodel Naomi Campbell has her first child at 50. I'll make my baby out of cardboard! I prop my cell phone up on the windowsill for many of my selfie shots.

My Box My Rules

This one is definitely related to the recent Roe v. Wade overturn in many states. I had a lot of fun wrapping the on hand Cal King sheet set around my studio.

Raphael’s Angel [Hair Pasta] al Dente

I remember sketching the angels in Rafael’s “Sistine Madonna” in college. I was working in the payroll department. Hanging on the wall was a reproduction of just the angels. I took it a bit further recently by placing warm cooked pasta on my head.

Ear muffins

Why are they called ear muffs? Ear muffins are the way to go. Literally. Hungry? Grab an ear muffin on the go. Just be careful on public transit, there are two of them. These were way harder to attach than I thought they would be. Too soft, too sticky, too heavy.
